Patterns for Integrating Vendor Drivers In Rust

Working in industrial systems I am normally integrating different devices from different vendors. When I transitioned from LabVIEW to Rust several years ago it was one of my largest question marks, how difficult will this be?

Now several vendor products down, from proprietary acquisition hardware to industrial cameras, I’ll share my experience with the most practical options for integrating vendor drivers with examples of different approaches and some continuing questions and issues that I want to address next.

James is the Director of Wiresmith Technology, a one-man (hopefully two by the time of Oxidize) consultancy which specializes in developing novel industrial measurement systems. He has been in this role for 12 years. He moved his business from focusing on LabVIEW to Rust 3-4 years ago and now Rust is the primary language in use.

James works on projects building robust, low volume systems across many industries, including energy, physics and biomedical projects.
